We are looking for an experienced and successful Head of UX to join Yell.

This is an exciting new role for our business and will report directly into the MD.The role will be a senior member of Extended Leadership Team, and it will hold a strong, central voice across the organisation working closely with various stakeholders driving and influencing strategy at the highest level.

At a pivotal time for our business as we evolve into a true services marketplace, we are looking for an experienced UX strategy expert that will be that bond between research , content , business , engineering and product. You will have license to make an impact and to execute ideas and take people on a journey. We firmly believe this is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to drive the UX agenda across the customers and businesses that use our product.

Responsibilities:

Drive the future strategy within UX across the business
Manage the User Experience team, proactively mentoring team members
Work collaboratively with Product / Engineering / Research and other areas to shape initial project requirements and ongoing strategic direction
Engage relevant stakeholders in design process through collaboration, workshops and design show and tell
Demonstrate a clear knowledge of Yell customer and business needs, advocating for users throughout all projects
Work with the wider UX team to follow up post-launch with ongoing evaluation of data user feedback, suggesting changes based on these findings
Contribute to ongoing team culture, building a positive team environment and sharing knowledge with team members
Develop agile thinking within the team, advocating for lean methodologies where possible
Evangelise what good User Experience practices look like with your team and the wider company

Requirements:

Extensive experience in a similar “Head of / Director” role
Exceptional communication skills
Exemplary stakeholder management up to C suite level with strong influencing skills
A true collaborator with energy and passion for driving creativity
Proven ability to set UX strategy and vision, transforming brands
User of industry standard software; Sketch, Invision, Adobe CC
Ability to synthesise, interpret and communicate user needs from a wide variety of inputs.
Usher in a new cohesive design system for the company focused on usability, accessibility and desirability.
A thought leader and natural story teller, who can ‘take people with them’ on a journey of change, both inside and outside their team.
A passion for simplicity and elegance, raising the bar for UX and product design, and holding the team accountable that high bar.
A highly creative, solution focused, ‘can do attitude’
Experience of working in a fast-moving environment with multiple deadlines and priorities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Architect to join the Engineering team here at Yell. We have big plans for our team and product, and we are looking to add to our passionate, diverse, and ambitious team to help make our mission a reality. You will be part of a small, focused, and highly collaborative team within Yell Architecture, looking to define and own the cloud and on-premise architectures across Yell.

The Role

As Technical Architect you will be responsible for Achieving the organisation’s goals by collaborating with the software development teams to build scalable software that fits the business needs.You will work with engineers to establish and document architectural principles, ensuring standards evolve with emerging technologies and adding in mechanisms to drive adherence.

Working with the software development team to ensure DevSecOps and quality practices are at the core of our development, whilst Coordinating with the software development team to ensure our systems run smoothly and are built with maintainability in mind.

Driving quality development of new features in an agile environment whilst continuously monitoring and reacting to user and technological changes.

Building and maintaining technical relationships with key external suppliers, promoting deep understanding of their products across the Software Development team, and leveraging their features to produce meaningful improvements in business, customer and employee experience.

Responsibilities

Development of microservices in a containerised cloud environment, to lead cross component technical design, produce clear architectural documentation and communicate clearly plans and risks to business stakeholders.
Lead, develop and mentor technical people reaching out across multiple technical teams, building strong working relationships to share good practice, co-operating on cross team features, and driving a good end-to-end customer experience.
Thrive in a lean product / agile environment and work with the teams to continually improve our processes practices so that we can build, measure and learn rapidly.
Encourage the engineers they work with to understand the architectural standards and best practices and work autonomously within them, while regularly reviewing and updating them to meet the needs of their team.
Lead robust code review, testing and automated testing procedures.
Regularly communicating architecture and technical decisions to business stakeholders and technical team members

Requirements

A hands-on multi-disciplinary technologist that likes getting problem solving across multiple tech streams. We predominately use Java for our micro services but our full stack includes vueJs, SwiftUI, Kotlin, MongoDB, Aurora, Snowflake, Marklogic, SAP Cloud Platform Integration, Oracle , SqS and many more
A demonstrated track record of learning and adapting to new technologies
A thought leader who believes in SOLID principles of clean code in a simple style using designs that follow our architecture standards.
A strategic thinker that plans and reviews with the wider business
Deeply appreciative and passionate about all aspects of the user experience
Experience of mentoring and developing technical team members to lead good technical delivery practice
Communicate difficult technical concepts clearly to various key business stakeholders
Have worked in an Agile Scrum based environment using a modern ticketing driven system and implementing CI/CD concepts
Have designed REST/CRUD Microservice environments using containers and AWS
Understand how users interact with modern messaging systems
Confident with analysing user data, developing insights from this and applying these to architectural decisions

Nice to have

Experience building and maintaining chat bots at volume
