We are seeking a Software Engineer eager to apply their skills to the automated testing of Yell’s digital products. As part of the software engineering team, you will create, code and maintain test scripts which provide critical information about the quality of the product during its development, and guarantee the quality of each release. The Role

  • Create and maintain automated tests using state-of-the-art test frameworks, the java programming language and other scripting languages where appropriate.
  • Deploy tests under a continuous integration (CI) environment, generating well-presented test metrics.
  • Ensure that defects detected during testing are assigned to the development team and tracked.
  • Understand non-functional requirements (e.g. security, performance, load, privacy, accessibility) and be able to create tests to measure them.
  • Understand high-level product objectives, detailed user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide information about expected timescales and effort needed for the testing of each release.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the development and implementation of quality improvement plans, keeping abreast of new technologies, test tools and frameworks.

The Person (may be gained via formal study and/or employment)

  • Good software development skills, especially in web services and XML processing.
  • Excellent coding skills, preferably in Java. Also valuable are JBehave, JavaScript, Groovy, VBScript, Python, and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with developing software in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of source control systems, ideally Git and also Subversion.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong team player with good communication and Interpersonal skills.
